With the increased incidence of cyber-crime affecting organisations across the UK and globally, ensuring robust security and compliance is paramount for businesses of all sizes. Microsoft has recently introduced three new add-on licenses for Microsoft 365 Business Premium, designed to enhance security and compliance features tailored to various organisational needs. These add-ons cater to businesses requiring advanced endpoint protection, data compliance, or a comprehensive solution that combines both.
The solutions are:
- Microsoft Defender Suite for Business Premium
- Microsoft Purview Suite for Business Premium
- Microsoft Defender and Purview Suites for Business Premium
The full announcement information is available from Microsoft, but here we give our take on who would most benefit from these new offerings:
Microsoft Defender Suite for Business Premium
$10/user/month
This would be very useful for organisations that utilise InTune and Defender for Endpoint as their EDR platform. While the package does include Entra ID P2, Defender for Identity and Defender for Cloud Apps, the addition of Defender for Endpoint P2 and Defender for Office 365 P2 make this a very useful license.
Microsoft Purview Suite for Business Premium
$10/user/month
This license would be very useful for organisations that utilise Business Premium and handle sensitive data. Primarily organisations that handle PII, banking information, health information etc. So, organisations such as Healthcare, Recruitment and Point of Sale (Insurance, Product Selling).
This license would be more targeted at organisations that might have a higher turnover than others and need to provide additional protection for the information they hold in SharePoint, OneDrive and the wider M365 platform to prevent any potential issues with this high turnover. This provides smaller teams on tighter budgets an enterprise level of compliance and data protection.
Microsoft Defender and Purview Suites for Business Premium
$15/user/month
While this is great for many organisations that utilise Business Premium licensing that want to benefit from additional security features, data compliance and data protection features that this package contains, it is more suitable for organisations who are looking to move into a few hundred users (i.e. user bases of 100+, where security becomes a larger landscape and organisations might have multiple platforms doing what this suite can do in a single license). This dual suite provides organisations with enterprise-level compliance and audit features as well as the enterprise-level security that Microsoft have developed in their platform.
It is also ideal for organisations who are looking to implement enterprise-grade security and data protection without compromising on features or budget. i.e. organisations looking at moving from Business Premium to M365 E3 + add-ons. As this suite is more cost-effective and feature rich.
Lastly, this type of license would also be ideal for organisations looking to consolidate various licenses as well with one vendor to better manage costs. For example, those looking to utilise Defender for Endpoint instead of another XDR solution or existing XDR solution. As there could be potential cost savings without compromising security features.
As always if you require advice and guidance on selecting the right solution for your organisation, or ifi you’d like full pricing details on all of these options please get in touch.
